INGLIS FOUNDATION AWARDED $450,000 GRANT FROM THE
PEW CHARITABLE TRUSTS TO REPLACE INGLIS HOUSE ELEVATORS

(Philadelphia, PA)Inglis Foundation, a non-profit provider of programs and services for adults with physical disabilities, has received a $450,000 grant from The Pew Charitable Trusts.  The funds will be used to replace elevators at Inglis House, a subsidiary of Inglis Foundation that provides residential long term care for 297 adults with physical disabilities.

Residents of Inglis House are typically active, younger adults, who use wheelchairs to navigate the facility, its seven-acre campus and the community at large.  The elevators to be renovated are two of the oldest and most heavily-used in the facility.  (Originally installed in 1929, they received upgrades in the 1950s and 1970s.)  The elevators provide direct access to Inglis’ interior courtyard, where residents socialize, enjoy nature and participate in therapeutic recreational activities like gardening.  The elevators are also used for daily laundry and dietary pick-ups and deliveries.

The new elevators will operate more efficiently and smoothly and will experience less "down time" for repairs and maintenance.  The installations will also provide updated communication and fire safety features and better electrical power and control systems, among other improvements.  Inglis House expects to complete the project by summer 2009.

Inglis Foundation (www.inglis.org) works with people with physical disabilities to create and provide practical solutions so they may pursue their life goals. Services include residential long term care, accessible housing, an adult day program, care management, durable medical equipment and community employment.

The Pew Charitable Trusts (www.pewtrusts.org) is driven by the power of knowledge to solve today’s most challenging problems.  Pew applies a rigorous, analytical approach to improve public policy, inform the public and stimulate civic life.  Pew partners with a diverse range of donors, public and private organizations and concerned citizens who share its commitment to using fact-based solutions and goal-driven investments to improve society.
