Self-Determination Housing Project (SDHP)
Self-Determination Housing Project (SDHP) is a statewide program that helps low to moderate income people with disabilities live independently in their own homes by making accessibility modifications. They have completed over 90 home modifications in the last five years. SDHP also advocates for self-determination in housing at the state and local level. Working with state agencies, organizations and housing professionals, they help consumers gain better access to housing options and train housing agency personnel in how to work with people with disabilities so they become more independent and self-sufficient. An ACE recipient in 2007, SDHP has since expanded its reach to serve older adults with mobility issues through grants from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency Home Modification and Assistive Technology Initiative and from the Department of Community and Economic Development.
