Adam Sklar, a Chalfont native, has been a lifelong sports fan with a clear goal: to become the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s an ambitious goal. But he knows he must start somewhere, and that’s exactly what he’s doing.
Adam is autistic and lives with Prader-Willi syndrome, but his determination led him to Inglis Employment Services, which helped him take the first steps toward his dream.
Inglis Employment Services provides hands-on supported employment for individuals with disabilities, offering skill-building, training, and job-placement support. With a team of certified employment specialists, Inglis guides individuals through pre-employment preparation, on-the-job training, and long-term employment maintenance.
For Adam, that meant finding a position that aligned with his passion. He works events at Lincoln Financial Field, including Eagles games and concerts, handling tasks like ticket taking and ushering.
“It’s my dream job, and I work hard for this,” Adam said.
His mother, Staci Sklar, admits she wasn’t sure how it would work at first, but she’s seen tremendous growth. “Inglis really helped refocus him and set up the structure he needed to be successful,” Staci said. “Adam’s desire to work for the Eagles overrides any issues he might have in that active environment.”
Christine Weikel, employment services supervisor at Inglis, worked closely with Adam to ensure his success. “We help each client build their own professional network and become independent and confident in their job responsibilities,” she said.
Adam was highly motivated from the start, and Christine saw his potential. “He had a master’s in sports management, so I asked, ‘What’s your dream job?’ He said, ‘Eagles head coach.’ That might not happen right now, but we could start somewhere. He found the job and applied, and we supported him through it,” Christine explained.
Now, Adam has graduated from the program and continues to thrive. “We were with him 100% of the time for his first 40 hours, then we slowly stepped back,” Christine said. “By the end of his first season, he was developing friendships and receiving rave reviews.”
Staci is grateful for the support, emphasizing the importance of resources like Inglis. “I’m a firm believer in the services Inglis provides. A job at Dick’s Sporting Goods wasn’t going to be the right answer—this is what Adam wanted.”
Adam’s story is a testament to the power of determination and the right support system. He has taken a major step toward his dream, proving that with the right opportunities, anything is possible.
